The Front Line is a DJ hybrid band built by The Mixed Nuts, one of New Orleans’ longest-running special events bands. DJ A$H drives the night from the decks while select live musicians play over the top of the mix: live vocals, real trumpets and saxophones, and a dance floor that never gets the chance to empty.
What Is a DJ Hybrid Band?
A DJ hybrid band puts live musicians on stage with a working DJ instead of making you choose between the two. The DJ handles the flow of the night, the song selection, the mixing and the transitions, so the music runs wall to wall with no set breaks and no dead air. The live players come in over that mix: a vocalist taking the hook, a horn section punching the chorus, a solo where the record would have just kept rolling.
The result sounds bigger than a DJ on his own and moves faster than a traditional band. You get the pacing and energy of a club set with the presence of live performance, and your guests never sit through the twenty minutes of silence a band’s set break usually costs you.

Multiple Size Configurations
The Front Line scales. A compact configuration of DJ A$H plus a horn player or two works beautifully for cocktail hours, rehearsal dinners and smaller receptions. Add vocalists and expand the horn section for a full ballroom, a corporate gala or a festival stage.
Because you are not paying for a full nine-piece band on every booking, The Front Line fits rooms and budgets a traditional band cannot reach, without giving up live music.
A Format New Orleans Has Not Had
DJ hybrid bands have taken hold in New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles over the last several years, but they have been almost unheard of in New Orleans. The Front Line is our answer to that. It brings the format to Louisiana with musicians who have spent decades playing weddings, corporate events and festivals across the Gulf South, and who know what a New Orleans crowd actually wants to hear.
The Front Line or The Mixed Nuts with DJ?
Both come with a DJ. The difference is scale.
The Mixed Nuts with DJ is the full live show: the complete band, horns, vocals and rhythm section, with DJ A$H covering every transition so the music never stops. It is the biggest thing we do.
The Front Line is the leaner version: DJ A$H driving the night with select live musicians on top. Same musicianship, same energy, smaller footprint and smaller budget.

It depends on the configuration. The smallest setups are DJ A$H with one or two horn players. The largest add multiple vocalists and a full horn section. We build it around your room and your budget.
